Meet Libby Hellmann - Local Mystery Series Author

Thursday, February 18th

According to the Chicago Tribune, “there’s a new no-nonsense detective in town. Tough and smart enough to give even the legendary V.I. Warshawski a run for her money.” They were referring to Georgia Davis, Libby Hellmann’s protagonist in “Easy Innocence.” Now Davis returns, paired with Ellie Foreman, in Hellmann’s sixth crime fiction thriller, “Doubleback,” in which an IT manager of a Chicago Bank dies in a suspicious car accident and may have misappropriated three million dollars.

Please join us for a discussion of her latest thriller in which Libby interviewed several of Northview Bank’s employees during the writing process (none of whom have misappropriated 3 millions dollars!) Libby lives on the North Shore and her novels are set here as well. Along with writing novels and short stories, Libby also writes and produces videos. A light lunch will be served. This event is free to our customers and their guests.

Cost: FREE, but please call for reservations

Art Institute of Chicago - Modern Wing and Matisse Exhibit

Monday, March 22nd

We will take a guided tour of the new Modern Wing of the Art Institute and learn about the building’s designer, Renzo Piano, as well as the museum’s renowned collection of modern art and architecture. After lunch at the Millenium Room, we will tour the Matisse exhibit–Matisse Radical Invention, 1913-1917. In terms of the career of Henri Matisse, the time between his 1913 return from Morocco and his 1917 departure for Nice, represents his most demanding, experimental and enigmatic works, including paintings that are abstracted and purged of descriptive detail, geometric and sharply composed and dominated by the colors black and gray. The exhibition will reveal deep connections between his works and demonstrate the artist’s critical development at this time.

Cost: $124.00

Time: 2:00pm

We will depart Lake Forest: 8:45 a.m. from Christ Church, 100 Waukegan Rd. Please arrive by 8:30 a.m.
