We have received reports that criminals are conducting an email phishing campaign that targets security-minded bank customers by sending what appears to be a secure email that has a subject line similar to below:
"You have received a secure message from [XYZ] Bank" or "You have received an encrypted message from [XYZ] Bank"
The email asks you to open and install an attachment in order to register and receive the secure email. The attachment contains a computer virus that allows the criminals to steal online banking credentials, credit card numbers, and other personal information you may enter while using the internet.
To safeguard your personal data we would like to remind you to always use caution when you receive unexpected emails, especially those containing attachments or links to websites. The bank will never ask you for personal or account information in an email, or require you to install software. If you receive a suspicious email claiming to be from the bank, please call your local bank representative for clarification.
